Amanda + Ryan Engagement // Lost Gulch Overlook // Boulder, CO

I shot Amanda's sister, Brittany's wedding last year in Evergreen, but that isn't where I first met Amanda. We met in high school at TJ. She was a couple years younger than me but we were instantly friends. She grew up with a lot of the crew I played baseball with, so we were around each other quite a bit. I always appreciated the positive vibe and infectious smile she brought along with her everywhere she went. People were and still are drawn to her for those same reasons, so when she told me she was engaged, I had to meet her other half.

I met them for our original meeting over some beers and immediately liked Ryan. Apparently, the Kansas City Chiefs actually do have some fans that are awesome people because Ryan claims to be one and he's a pretty cool dude. I won't hold it against him though. Especially since the Chiefs only have one playoff win since 1993... burn. It's cool, we're friends. In all seriousness, Ryan seems like the guy you want to have your back. He seems fun, honest and someone that would just make you a better person the more you're around him.

At that meeting, I got to catch up with Amanda a bit, meet Ryan for the first time but also got to see the two of them together. They fit like a glove and they seem just perfect together. I knew that any photos we would take would be a breeze because of how connected they are together. Fast forward to our engagement session. We first started off near their house to allow their dog, Nibble to have an appearance. Nibble got her face time, we shot around there for a bit and then headed up to Boulder for the rest of the session. It was so easy to direct them because it was just so natural. They were able to be fun and playful yet also be intimate and sweet with each other. Mother nature cooperated and gave us great weather and killer light which made for an awesome session.

After shooting around the mountain, we headed over to the Lost Gulch Overlook and what a view it was. Unfortunately for us, we weren't the only ones with the idea of watching the sunset because we did not have the place to ourselves. First shot where no one was, then asked some people to move. One person said no problem, but on one condition... that he be in one of the photos. He made the blog. The view and sunset were absolutely stunning as we felt like we were on top of the world. Even with an audience, Amanda and Ryan were so natural together and we got some really great shots.

They are getting married next August at my favorite venue, Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, CO. With how well the engagement session went, I truly can't wait to shoot their wedding next year. I get the privilege of capturing people's lives and when I get to do that for a friend and watch their lives grow into something beautiful, it means that much more. Cheers to the engaged couple! Don't blink... because the wedding will be here before we know it!
